Video lecture: Indirect question forms

Explanation of indirect questions

Indirect questions most commonly begin with the following phrases:

  • Do you think…
  • Do you know…
  • Have you any idea…
  • Could you please tell me…

We don’t use inversion (putting the helping verb in front of the subject). We don’t use helping verbs do / does / did

If the answer to the question is “yes” or ”no”, we use the ”if” or ”whether” after the introductory phrase.
Example:

  • Do you know if he likes football?
  • Can you tell me whether you can come to the party?

Indirect forms are essentially affirmative statements. NO INVERSION

EXAMPLE # 1

Do you know where Liam work?

EXAMPLE # 2

Have you got any idea where Bella?

Have you got any idea where Bella
